How do I get my dvr to recognize satellite channels?
dvr
columbo asked:

I purchased an RCA dvd/dvr and connected it to my directv satellite box. I can watch/record one channel but the dvr does not recognize any of my other satellite channels. When I program the dvr it only locates the channel I’m watching, the rest are “blue screen” I would like to watch one channel and record another. Can anyone help?

    Hello Columbo,

The problem is your direct TV box is only feeding the current channel to your recorder.

You can feed the satellite box into your recorders input and record any channel the cable box is set to but it is just like your TV. The TV only shows the channel that the satellite box is feeding it.

You need another satellite box for your recorder.

If you want to be able to record more than one channel at a time you would need to use a DirecTV DVR. It has dual tuners which allows two seperate channels to be watched/recorded at a time. Since you are connecting a dvr to a satellite box you will only get whatever channel you have the sat box turned to.
