How do you get Closed Captioning to work on HDTV?

Butterfly asked:

I have a really big wide screen HDTV but the downside of it is that when everyone’s in bed I’d like to turn the tv all the way down and read the captions. I can’t get the captions to work on this HDTV I’ve tried all different settings(C1, C2, T1, T2) none work.

The other regular tvs, CC works on those but not on HDTV why is that?

  1. TV guy says:

By FCC law, all HDTVs with tuner should support CC.
You must be using a set-top box and somehow closed captioning is not passed to the TV - quite common if you use Component or HDMI cables.
Check the settings of your set-top box.

I would call your cable provider and tell them how you are getting HDTV and have them explain to you how to get the captioning going. From what I understand, the signal is different than analog so can be trickier to get captions to appear on the screen. Good luck!
