If there is some king of electronics store like Best Buy or somthing, then go in there and look at the TV’s and decide which one has the best picture.
Try to stand back the same distance from the TV as you would be at if the TV was in house and 1)see if the screen is so small that you have to squint to look at text and details and 2) make sure that it’s not so big that you have to move your head far from the center to see the sides and/or corners.
I used to like a 1080i 60″ plasma in my room but when it died I tried a used 720p 28″ Westinghouse ($500) and I enjoyed playing games and watching movies on it better from the same distance of 6′ as the other (much bigger) TV.
Get an HDTV with a refresh rate of at least 60hz and at the right size for where you’re going to look at the TV from. If the TV is going to be over 35″, then get 1080p. 720p should be good enough for smaller TV’s unless you’re willing to spend extra for 1080p which at that size range isn’t going to show a very big difference really. 1080i has a low refresh rate, which isn’t good for fast-paced gaming.
